Bail out The owner of the car should go to the nearest station and arrange to have the brake fixed.
If they can’t find it, it may be worth doing some research online to see if it can be repaired.
The owner should tell the police if the brake has not been fixed in the past, so they can report it.
Call the local police station if the owner has not told them about it.
If it’s not a criminal offence, the police should investigate.
If the owner says they’ve never had a brake break, they could face charges.
Make sure the brake is in working order If you think the brake might be broken, make sure the vehicle is in an approved serviceable condition.
You should check if the vehicle’s transmission and transmission fluid is good.
If there are any cracks, there should be an inspection done.
The manufacturer should tell you what repairs are being made.
Make the brake fluid in the car available to you, if it’s available in your local area.
If this is not the case, you should contact the manufacturer.
If an inspection has not yet been carried out, the owner may have to pay for a repair to be carried out.
Check your brake fluid and transmission oil, if you’ve got them.
If your brake is not in working condition, you can try to replace it.
The carmaker may not be able to do this, but there are a number of repair shops that can do it for you.
If none of these options work, you may be able use a car shop to carry out the repair.
Find a mechanic If you’re in a car where there’s no one around to fix the brake, you could consider hiring a mechanic.
If possible, hire a mechanic who can do the job yourself.
If not, you might be able get a service manual for the vehicle to read.
Find the mechanic’s location Find a service centre where you can go to for advice and training.
Ask them to get you information about the brake you have.
You could also ask a mechanic to look after your brake.
